For this custom 85ft racing yacht, MORFRAC managed the development of the water ballast system from the initial brief through to manufacture and delivery. The job was to understand what the boat needed, refine the system design and coordinate the different manufacturing processes so the parts could be delivered together, ready for installation.
From the brief to a design we could build
We started by studying what the system had to do and how it would fit into the boat. Once we had defined those requirements, we refined the design with manufacturing in mind. That meant working out where carbon, metal and plastic made sense, how the parts would fit together, and which process was best suited to each component.
On a project like this, keeping engineering and production under the same scope allowed us to work through decisions before committing to tooling and manufacture.
One point of contact through manufacture
We oversaw mould production and carbon lamination, specified the metal and plastic components, and coordinated CNC machining and 3D printing. Our role was to manage the interfaces between those workstreams, so that decisions made for one part carried through to the others. The team received the system as a package, ready to fit on board.
That’s where MORFRAC can help. Whether you have a drawing, a rough sketch or an idea that came up in a conversation on the dock, we can define the brief with you, develop the engineering and manage the build through to delivery.
